The X and Y axes of the machine are driven by
toothed timing belts. This method of drive has
multiple advantages over lead-screw drives: it is
economical, has zero backlash, is very tolerant
of small misalignment between components,
can easily achieve high speed motion, and
provides adequate levels of accuracy and
precision.
